Yep, it's that time. It's the first official post of Terrorific Tuesday!!! Over the past week, eleven artists posted projects on their blogs in celebration of their love for all things Halloween. It's October again. How did that happen? I love this time of year though. DH commented yesterday that I was so lucky to have my birthday during a beautiful season. I've never thought of it that way but I am grateful. Autumn is so beautiful and resplendent with all my favorite colors.
I was invited by a Twitter friend, SwellDesigner, to participate in a weekly consortium of Halloween art. Not being a big halloween decorator (my kids are lucky to get their pumpkins carved by the time we walk out the door for trick-or-treating), I thought this would be a fun way to come up with a couple pieces I can use year after year!
This week I figured I'd start with a sign for my door. Granted, no one really comes to my door but the grouchy mailman who hates me, but you never know. Maybe it will brighten HIS day! lol I've added a quick tutorial if you feel like following along. If you make something with these instructions, let me know! Supplies:
Cigar box lid
paper scraps
vintage images
jewels, sequins or 1/2 beads (dots?)
glitter glue
letter stickerscolored pencils
sequin waste
glittery netting fabric
black cheesecloth
scroll-ish corner stamp
Aqua & Black glitters
Stazon Ink Pad (permanent)

1 - Cut off the lid from the box. Save the rest of the box for a future project.
2 - Collage with paper scraps on the lid. I left the edge cigar tape/stickers visable.
3 - Stamp with the scroll-ish corner stamp in the upper left using permanent ink.
4 - Using the Glue Pen, run over the stamped image with the glue.5 - Random add both glitters to the stamped image. Tap off excess.6 - Cut out 2 vintage images (I used the pumpkin one from a vintage postcard, and the fairy girl from AlteredPages, sheet 'Just A Little Frisky'. Attach to the lower right corner.7 - I then colored the pumpkin and fairy's dress with orange colored pencil for added color. Add glitter glue over the pumpkin and dress too.8 - Cut a piece of cheesecloth the size of the cigar box, maybe a bit longer. Cut the piece in 1/2 again and glue to the left/right sides of the box (on the back.) They should just flow.9 - Cut a piece of sequin waste the width of the bottom of the lid. Tear it randomly. Attach to the bottom and using a bit of glue, swipe across the sequin waste and then shake on the excess glitter you have.10 - Using letter stickers, spell out 'Happy Halloween' along the bottom of the box, at the top of the sequin waste.11 - Using a dremel tool or awl, punch holes in the top corners and then thread though a long strip of black netting. Tie knots on the front of the holes.12 - Final touch. Glue sequins, jewels or 1/2 beads to the top of the box as well as on each pointed part of the sequin waste.
Gosh, I've been such a terrible blogger. My own birthday celebration has been derailed. My normally loquacious person has been silenced by the everyday mundaneness of life. I don't know what happened to the rest of last week's days but they sped by like a freight train. So much for finishing up our party with cards, invitations and presents. Maybe I'll be more on the ball at the next celebration. My birthday today has been wonderful so far. My little dd made me a picture frame out of a box, ATC protector and glue dots! lol It holds a pic she found of me at about age 7. I was so cute! She also wrote a poem about life and us and God and everything is life. I love homemade gifts! The rest of my family have made things but apparently I get them after dinner. Yay me. DH bought Turtle Temptations mix for the kids to make for dessert. I think they're like fudge, Turtle style. YUM. Dinner will be DH's famous spicy stuffed chicken. I can not wait! Thank you to everyone who made the weeks leading up to my birthday particularly special. I've enjoyed so much all the visits, comments and well wishes. I thought I'd like to grace someone else's home with it. It has lots of extra pages in the back for someone to continue altering. If you win the bookmark, I'll include supplies for you to make some more of your own.
3 - I have 1 more set of 20+ sheets of stickers sitting around here. Some letters may be missing from some sheets, a lot of them are full and complete.
4 - Recently my crown was in Altered Arts magazine and was given a gift certificate to use in their store. I found a few things I liked but didn't spend it all. So I'm giving away a $10 GC to their store. 5 - Remember this piece I made recently? I've decided it served its purpose for me. I've pulled out the little thought papers and am giving away the art for you to keep. You can add your own memories or just hang it up as is. 
6 - DH would love to get our big bedroom closet back for actual clothes instead of my collection of fabrics; and you can never have too many ribbons, so I'm giving away a combo gift of a pile of both fabric and ribbons. 
7 - Finally, I'm going through my 10 large drawers of stamps (some wood mounted, some not mounted) and I'm weeding out what I don't use. The winner of this prize will receive 5 stamps from my collection. They may be used, they may be new. Either way, fun new stamps for you to use!
